Delphi Fuel Pump Assembly

2 years ago my 2003 Ford work truck engine started but would not start unless I turned the ignition key to the on/off position. 2-3 times, then start the engine. got worse over time, sometimes i had to turn the key on and off 4-5 times especially after driving the car, then last week the unthinkable happened when i left work for the day and decided to make a stop at the Few minutes, got back to my van, put the key in and tried to start the engine, the engine cranked but it wouldn't start, I turned the key on/off more than 5-10 times but he still wouldn't start so I tried 5 to 10 more times. The engine started, so I drove straight to my shop and ordered a Delphi fuel pump assembly. Shipping was great and fast! The new fuel pump assembly was a perfect OEM fit! Bolt holes matched and came with a new gasket and bolts/washers. I also cleaned the inside of the fuel tank before installing the new fuel pump assembly (remember to clean the outside of the tank before removing the old fuel pump or dirt and debris will get into the fuel tank). about 2 hours. I also changed the fuel filter and added a few cans of ship mold cleaner with a full tank of gas. Well, after installation and as soon as I turned the key to the crank position, the engine started right away! A few things that struck me immediately: the fuel gauge was identical, the increase in engine power was very noticeable, the increase in gas consumption, the transmission seemed to shift more smoothly and accurately. (Transmission took longer to upshift when it needed speed when coming in on freeway ramps) Knowing this now, I wish I had replaced the pump a few years earlier, probably would have saved a lot of bucks. Initially, In wanted to return to the motorcycle brand because they had over 260,000 miles but the cost was between $350 and $600. But I'm happy with the Delphi brand and would recommend it, hope it lasts at least 100,000 miles.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Dull packaging
