Review on Reliance Controls THP205 Sump Pump Alarm: Flood Alert, 9V Battery, 6 Ft Wire Sensor, 105 Db, White by Smiley Edwards

I bought this as an early warning when my drain pump stopped working. Installation was easy enough and I just hooked the sensor up to the PVC sump pump drain line a few inches higher than the highest level it was before the pump kicked in after a bucket of water fell into the pit. The device appears to be working. ok but not sure if it would be loud enough to be heard in our two story house. While this will certainly void the warranty, I decided to extend the wiring between the sensor and the alarm module with a regular signal wire (phone wire should work too) and I soldered it in to ensure a solid connection. This allowed me to do two things: 1) I was able to place the alarm module anywhere and much farther away, which will come in handy when I finish my basement. 2) I was able to install an alarm module on the return duct of my stove which I hoped would sound the alarm from anywhere in the house. I could install it on the oven's "outlet" duct, but I didn't want to expose it to such high temperatures while the oven was running. While it's still not piercingly loud throughout the house, I can hear it almost everywhere and I think that helped a little. I don't know if this will wake me from a deep sleep, but I think it's better than nothing. I guess putting it *in* the channel might work even better (to get the sound through the channels even better). Maybe I'll experiment with this another time, but I'd definitely like to hook it up to a power source if I went that route. Although this device can use a power adapter ("Wall Wart"), it is not included in the scope of delivery. I might even put the alarm module up, next to the thermostat for example. *Update (5/14)* About a week ago we had severe storms at night. This alarm saved us from a possible catastrophe! He did his job of alerting me that the swamp level had risen more than it should have. Luckily we had electricity and a small emergency pump so we could lower the level while we looked for the cause. It turned out that at some point our drainage pump was clogged with a substance. We were able to clean the pump and turn it back on with no water damage.
