I have been shaving with the Double Edge safety razor for about 4 years now. During that time I've tried many different products to shave with maximum effort and have found that witch hazel is one of the best things for me and many other people. It works great as an aftershave lotion (I use it after shaving and also as a facial cleanser). I first found Thayer witch hazel unscented and with aloe. It works great and I love it! However, I switched to Quinn's about 3 months ago to see how this witch hazel stacks up against the "top competition" in terms of WH. The two reasons I switched to Quinn's Witch Hazel were the price, where I could get about 25% more for the same price, and that Quinn and Thayer seemed to have the same ingredients, so I thought this was the same thing . Right off the bat I thought I noticed a difference with Quinn, but I didn't really think about it. I wanted to test the product thoroughly before reviewing to give a fair review rather than the day after purchase so my first bottle was almost done which I think is a fair amount. Time for a review. When I use this product I feel like a film is left on my skin. I suspect it's the aloe in the product. I used to use aloe as an aftershave when things were rough (shaving) and I'd say it's like just putting aloe on your face. The feeling lasts for some time but is not as strong as when using pure aloe. At the time of writing this review, I shaved last night and still have a relatively smooth face. For last night's aftershave, instead of using Quinn, I used some Thayer's WH to test against Quinn after not using it for about 3 months. Thayer seemed to sink into my skin quickly leaving my skin moisturized and smooth with a wonderful feel. I used it again this morning after my shower (as a facial cleanser) and got the same results: smooth, moisturized skin (after it dries, which takes 5 minutes). Tonight after work I came home, took a shower and used Quinn. At the time of writing this review I've been holding it on my face for about 2 hours and I can feel the aforementioned 'film' or residue of it which I don't like or dislike. Finally, after my review of Quinn, I would like to say that this is a good product, but not the best. It does what Witch Hazel is supposed to do and has the same effects as Thayer as far as I know. People use WH for skincare and aftershave (and something else I'm sure) and either Quinn or Thayer's are good for those uses. The same ingredients, so the same care effect. But if you want your skin to feel good after using WH, no matter what you use it for, then Thayer is the way to go. The skin becomes smoother, which I like. If you don't mind leaving aloe on your skin, use Quinn's. I'll keep using it until it's gone, but then I'll go back to Thayer.
