Switching to that sound from Dragonfly Red this unit is much better and half the price. The Red simply lacked bass, and while it was accurate in the high frequencies, the incredible weakness of the bass left it without "character" and much of the music sounded thinner than it should. With Hidiz, the sound is as precise and detailed as the Red, but without the subtlety. Simply better, fuller and more lively all around. A couple of minor notes - despite the small size, it's chunky because it requires a separate cable from the device to a computer or phone. The benefit is that you can plug it into anything with any USB port and it won't break if your laptop slips off. It has volume buttons, but to preserve dynamic range I usually leave it at maximum and modulate the volume of the source material. This may not be the right strategy, but I haven't found enough data to confirm which method works best for volume control and range maintenance. I should add that the unit has enough power to drive my 300ohm Sennheiser HD600, so that's fine, but using the Sennheiser wasn't a problem with the Dragonfly Red - oddly, it shows the same bass subtlety on mine 32 ohm Etymotics.
