Review on Cafflano Go Brew Portable Beverage Eco Friendly by Robin Naber

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Surprise: It works!

My opinion that I just used Cafflano for the first time: As a journalist who travels a lot to places where I can't find fancy third-wave coffee shops, and a lightweight portable brewery mug like Cafflano can really come in handy. I got one as a gift and wasn't thrilled with the idea. I tried face to face with my V60 with identical variables. When I used Cafflano I thought it wouldn't work. The brewer's basket seems to be too small, I couldn't seem to get enough water to saturate and bloom properly, and during watering I was constantly afraid that the grounds would splash out. However, I was shocked to find that the taste was quite comparable when compared to a very good cup I had just brewed on my V60. It may have gotten a bit heavier and lost one or two of the more subtle floral notes, but I was very impressed; If someone were to change my cups, I'm not entirely sure I would be able to tell them apart. And I was disappointed. Note: I was impressed by the brew cup's apparent instability (in fact, why not add a third or fourth notch to avoid wobbling?), but I found that when it's heavily weighted and the water starts to flow, it does Weight seems to keep the cup from moving. For the trip I'll probably take my little V60 with me anyway, as space isn't an issue and it's a lot easier to use. However, if I need to pack a light, this is a great and tasty solution, especially for the price.
