This is for Mazda CX-5 21. I didn't need to update the firmware, I plugged it in, a bluetooth connection appeared on my display and within 60 seconds it was set up and started playing music. When I get in the car and pull out the driveway, it's plugged in and ready to go. There's a slight delay when pressing the Play/Pause/Skip button, but that's to be expected. The only problem I've had so far is that this morning (I've only been using it for about a week) I started the car and the CarPlay screen came up, but at the same time the normal Mazda screen was also visible. behind. When I used my car's scroll wheel, it scrolled through the Mazda options (About, Entertainment, Settings, etc.), even though my display also showed the CarPlay screen. Essentially, the CarPlay and Mazda screens were displayed on top of each other at the same time, but scrolling the wheel to select an option scrolled through the Mazda options instead of the CarPlay options. I've tried selecting "Entertainment" on the Mazda screen and then pressing "CarPlay" but nothing happened so I'm not sure if there's an immediate fix (other than restarting the car) if this does should happen to you. The next time I restarted the device, it worked fine.
