I bought these brackets specifically to install in the kitchen. You should be able to mount it in either a "hanging" position where the outlet is below the outlet, or in a vertical position where the outlet is above the outlet. While technically correct, using a nest-over-plug configuration (which we did to minimize food debris on the speaker fabric) does not provide sufficient durability. I plugged ours in all the way, making sure it was plugged into an outlet. as far as possible. The "up" position looked like it would stay that way with no problems, but when I returned to the kitchen after a while, the bracket and speaker were tilted about 30 degrees to the right. I pushed it back but after about 2 hours it not only tipped sideways but also moved away from the wall. It was so unreliable that I firmly believed that if I left it alone it would fall out completely. Not happy at all.
