I ordered a 14 inch California King bed in my guest room for my father-in-law. He's a big man, and the typical Hollywood metal frames (I think that's what they're called) don't support him well enough. I was so impressed with the 14 inch screen that I bought a 16 inch screen for the master bedroom. The master bedroom has a nectar mattress and the guest bedroom has a regular pillowcase - for reference. If you're going to put this on a hard floor, you'll need a rug under the 16" frame with a pole that extends (about 2") to the head and foot ends of the mattress. It seems designed to hold the mattress in place, but the 14-inch frame didn't have that. We had to stuff a mattress with nectar, so to speak. I am sure that over time this will not be a problem. If you love collecting food or are passionate about food storage, this 16 inch frame is for you. 5 gallon buckets for food storage or other storage are perfect! The Cal King fits 6 buckets wide and 6 buckets long and if you label the lids you can see your labels when you lift the mattress. The metal bars are light enough but not too easy to lift when you need to get to certain buckets.
