Open on both sides! best filter accessory

I bought these pre-filters for the intake pipe of the mounted rear filter. However, since the jaws were open at both ends, they did not work properly. I had to sacrifice one of the six to plug one end. The main reason I bought them was so the roasts don't get sucked in. If I were to buy them to measure the surface area of bacteria I would prefer a thinner sponge.
