Despite their very simple design, I find sponge filters to be superior to most other filtration systems. They are also cheaper and easier to maintain. I was a bit worried about "big bubbles" after reading the only other review. However, I was glad that this sponge filter comes with an air stone already installed. It emits a fine mist of bubbles and makes little to no noise. It creates a strong current that is directed along the water surface and not straight up like many other foam filters. Since I don't have a lid on this tank, this design prevents water from splashing and I like it a lot. I only use sponge filters and this is a good option. 5 Stars.
