First Time: Impressed

After watching videos of using a sponge filter, I decided to use two of these in my last (40 gallon) tank. I was concerned about buoyancy issues; However, the basis weight was successful. It keeps the sponge submerged in the water while creating very good aeration, and the heavy base withstands the constant grit of my curious musk turtles. I am planning to install Powkoo Sponge Filter Angled Filter Sponges in my other aquariums.

Great filter for the price. works as advertised.

A little note. I didn't have instructions so I had to figure out which hose went where. It doesn't matter if you're familiar with filters, but I can see it would be a nuisance for the inexperienced person. My other minor complaint. The filter is a bit noisy. The price was reasonable so these complaints don't break the deal. These are just things that the buyer needs to be aware of. Basically I am satisfied with the product.

Superb Sponge Filter

Despite their very simple design, I find sponge filters to be superior to most other filtration systems. They are also cheaper and easier to maintain. I was a bit worried about "big bubbles" after reading the only other review. However, I was glad that this sponge filter comes with an air stone already installed. It emits a fine mist of bubbles and makes little to no noise. It creates a strong current that is directed along the water surface and not straight up like many other foam filters…

Great product: fish and aquatic animals

I have bought several of these over the years. I use them in several aquariums. I have a fish room in my basement with over 20 aquariums ranging in size from 2.5 to 125 gallons. The sponge filter saves lives. Every aquarium I own has at least 1 sponge filter in addition to some sort of feed filter. If a mechanical filter fails, or in the event of a power outage, it's very easy to use a sponge filter as a life support system, provided it's packed with beneficial bacteria. When setting up a new…

Loud but good - Aquarium Pumps and Filters

This is my second time buying this, I completely forgot it's very loud but there is a custom hack to reduce the noise level. I used to buy this for my 55g tank and got rid of it because of its noise. This time I bought it for my 20 gallon tank and chose this one because of its height and the fact that it is angled. Despite running with this in my tank, I could hear loud bubbles upstairs, making it almost impossible to watch TV downstairs. So I decided to remove the height adjustable spout and…
