The rating is for thickness, not my mistake. The description says it's for hardwood floors, but other reviewers have said this will work with carpet so I gave it a shot. I should have trusted the seller. It does not work well with carpet. It won't stay in place. I can't fault the seller, just offering a warning. Otherwise, it's a flimsy piece of fabric, not "thick", which only contributes to the problem. I can't test this on hardwood, but the "stick" feature is a very thin layer of adhesive.
