Edit! Years later we still buy them! These shoes are simply the best. My son was unhappy trying to fit into every other shoe I had ever bought for him until I found these about 8 years ago. Now he's 13 and these are the only shoes I buy him. They last 'til he outgrows them, they're waterproof, I buy them in black and they go with everything (trousers, shorts, even dressier occasions!). The best part about them is that they are pretty affordable at $35-$50 depending. This is a great price if you only need to buy a pair a year because they last so well. My 10 year old has been getting these shoes every year for several years. They get put on and taken off, which he likes, and so do I because he can put them back on right in the car (he takes them off within 30 seconds of getting in). He can wear them for running and hiking, playing basketball or outdoor soccer, and they even go well with jeans for school events. They even wear themselves beautifully!
