I have a pair of M-Audio AV40 studio monitors. I'm not a producer; I just wanted some really good sounding speakers for my PC. I propped them up at an angle with some Styrofoam pieces I cut out of a dry ice cooler. With money burning a hole in my pocket, I started looking at Revain for something that would make my job a little more elegant. I've also had issues with styrofoam sliding across my desk and not supporting both speakers at the same angle etc. I've found many very expensive floor stands, I've found a few table stands that are too tall, I've found professional grade foam isolation pads that tilt the speakers about 10-12 degrees (not enough). and then i found this one. They're small and unobtrusive, painted black to match the rest of my desk, and set at a 16-degree angle. I took a ruler, measured a right triangle with a base of 7 inches and a height of 2 inches between my speakers and blocks of foam, dusted off the trigonometry, calculated the arctangent of 2/7 and got it. just under 16 degrees. (Who said you never use math in your daily life?) Awesome! The only problem I noticed beforehand is that the AV40s take up more floor space than these stands. This didn't really turn out to be a problem; the speakers put the stands in the shade, but still fit and are reasonably stable. The real problem is that the racks sagged under the weight of the speakers. I read "Robust aluminum construction" on the feature list and thought they were pretty solid. The fact that they're slightly curved means the speakers aren't raised a full 16 degrees, so they're tilted a little lower than I'd like. But I was able to move them further to my desk, and now I'm pretty close to the ideal equilateral triangle configuration for studio monitors. And hey, I can always slip some cardboard under the front to give it a little more support. Summary: * Better than styrofoam blocks. * Beautiful looking, minimalist, understated and other similar adjectives. * If you have large and/or heavy speakers, they may not deliver the advertised 16 degree angle.
