A perfect fit, some tips

Dorman Replacement Cable A perfect fit. It's likely that by the time you attempt this job you'll already be able to handle taking your Highlander apart. For me it was a learning experience. I removed the grille thinking I needed a new hood latch as well (I didn't have one), but this made it easier to play around with the old and new wires. As another reviewer said, you need to lower (but not remove) the fender liner. You don't have to remove the wheel either, but this makes removing the fender liner easier. I bought some extra plastic clips to make things easier instead of trying to reuse the original clips. https://www.amazon.com/GOOACC-Compatible-90467-10183-90467-07201-52161-02020/dp/B07VY99191. I only needed three, now I have a lifetime supply. I tied and taped the new wire to the old one on the hood latch and routed the old and new wires into the wheel well behind the fender. It took a lot of fishing. My old cable didn't snap, but the body snapped where it's hiding near the headlight, so the hood wouldn't open. I cut the damaged part off the old case and cable and removed a small cylindrical cover from the old case that was supposed to prevent water from entering the cabin. The old case had trouble moving in the rubber hose that ran the cable to the cab so I sprayed all I could with 3M Dry Silicone Spray and used the old case to thread the new case and cable through the tube in to run the cabin. It then took me half an hour to pull the new cable head into place in the latch, but I only succeeded on the 300th try. Now the extractor hood works like new!
