Doesn't look like a third party controller and feels better than it looks

Let's start with something that doesn't relate to my assessment but is of interest to some could be people who buy this controller. My controller arrived not feeling as new as they claimed, at least as far as the box is concerned. There were some minor transport scratches on the box whatever, but there was some dust and other small debris inside that could have come from a previous owner or a refurbished location. I doubt it was refurbished because the controller itself seemed perfect. It was just weird dust particles and particles on the plastic cover. Let's move on to an overview that directly affects the rating: First, download the ready-made software for it from the 8bitdos website, with it you can easily update the controller and modify it a little for the PC and possibly the switch. I haven't played with it much and my Switch is just my computer. It's important that you don't ignore this, as one of the updates specifically states that it helps fix controller lag with a joycon-connected Switch. This is a BIG update by the way I read it. In my experience, after just 10 minutes of checking everything is installed, I've played Monster Hunter World on PC with Rando and a friend for about 4 hours, and it's very, very impressive. It doesn't look like a 3rd party controller, it really looks like a real 3rd party controller which is strange as I'm used to XB1 rev1, PS4 and WiiU Pro controllers. It's like a weird combination of PS4 and SNES controller. Not that bad, just weird in the hands if that makes sense. There are a few modes that the controller can work with. On a PC, for the most part, you'll want to set it to XInput because that's the default for it. Holding Start + X will launch this one. To switch, hold Start + Y. You only need to do this if you change the device you're pairing it with. If you have already synced it, you just have to press and hold Start. So it's fast. All buttons feel solid, as do the sticks. I had no issues with Monster Hunter other than my hands feeling the Nintendo controller and the game was tuned for the XB controller. Every key was responsive, as were the sticks. I really didn't see anything to complain about here. The triggers are analog, so they'll give you the response you might need on a PC, and they work great on the Switch even though it's not analog. Your dpad + attack / special inputs can change a lot. I didn't notice anything here, the dpad felt nice and I didn't move in a random direction when using my specials or attacks and I didn't notice any lag. It's a game that I've played over 150 hours because I love it, so I think I'll be able to discover something really outstanding. The controller comes with a USB-C charging cable that connects to a USB3. , so charging the controller is very easy. And unlike the PS4 controller, if you don't want to use the bundle that came with it, you can open the battery compartment, take out the battery pack, and slip it into its own loops - which I did on my first trial run, since I didn't. . I want to wait to charge my controller. It worked great, can't speak to the battery life in this test but I think it would be good considering it's basically an XB1 controller in terms of functionality. I'm sure I can promise with CONFIDENCE that 90% of the time it's better than a PS4 controller with a PC. I've had experience with this controller on PC and it's been fine, but most games required 3rd party drivers which were actively telling me I was experiencing lag even though I was only 2-3ft from the adapter and PS4 battery life was. Controller, even with third-party apps dimming the panel to dim or turn it off - battery life was still poor. I'm sure it will be much better. The battery life of my MD30 seems absurd. The grips look better than the photos, they look like they've only been chipped open to address complaints about the regular SN30 controller, but they actually felt pretty good. They are similar to the knobs and buttons on the PS4 controller, with the SNES providing the basis for the controller's faceplate. I saw some complaints in the reviews but to be honest I don't see these issues. I have a cheap ASUS PC adapter and my switch is about 3-5 feet from the line of sight controller and I haven't noticed any lag or issues connecting. It took about 10 minutes for the controller to update and work on the PC with xinput and less than a minute to switch. They don't have NFC for the Switch, but I doubt that'll be an issue for most. In short, you need a controller for your PC or Switch, but don't want to shell out big bucks for a Switch Pro or XB1 controller. Controller + WiFi adapter. This may be of use to you. There are no significant limitations for either device as they do not require an adapter. The software and controller options are very very reliable, it's a nice controller and I didn't notice any lag. It's not like those crappy Madkatz controllers you'd get because they were cheap, it really feels like a 1st party controller, but it doesn't have the platform versatility to claim allegiance. You can easily use it between PC, Switch, Android and iOS with a small shortcut key to change it whenever you need. I've used the MD30 controller pretty much the same way with a PC and a Switch and it's been great and seems to reflect that experience.
