I bought it for my son next year (grade 4). He writes reluctantly and still doesn't understand how to "smooth" the paragraph. I like pages that start with a paragraph and the child fills in the rest with 2 or 3 more sentence starts (pp. 64-69). I think this will help him write more fluently and not sound like he's making lists. The book deals with complete and incomplete sentences, subjects and predicates, sentence types, compound sentences, complex sentences, sentence beginnings with appendages. , adding details, using imagery, as well as comparing, metaphors, personifying and alliterizing. All of this fits into the first third of the book, and the rest is devoted to paragraph construction. This is definitely not a book for younger students who are just learning to write, unless you have other material to complement the building blocks that lead to paragraph writing. This book doesn't focus on spelling, just a little bit on grammar and punctuation. Rather, it is about learning to write in a playful way. This includes writing webpages and organizing details into paragraphs.
