The shade is dark without being dazzling. I have very light sensitive eyes and I have a hard time finding sunglasses that are dark enough to block glare well. The glass doesn't scratch very easily, although I haven't tried it. Mine are either on my face or in a hard case they put on my dresser. I dropped them twice with no damage. The frames are metal, not plastic, so high quality. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and will be buying my next pair from the same company.
