I took to replace the ATH M35, which served me for 8 years. They are out of production, so I decided to change them to a new model. ATH M40X took without wiretapping, focusing only on reviews. Well what can I say. Nothing good. In direct comparison to the ATH M35, the ATH M40X is a step backwards. The ear pads of the M40X are more rigid, tactilely not very pleasant. Instead of one, but good, spring-loaded cable, two cheap cords. Well, the sound. He's worse. M35 played accurately, powerfully and at the same time melodicly, on any sources, both on stationary equipment, external DACs, and on ordinary players and laptops. They could be listened to without taking off without a time limit. The ATH M40X has no trace of this melodiousness. They seem to play normally, quite accurately, but somehow formally, for show. At the bottom, 35 play almost infrasound, 40X does not even have this in sight. The sound is very tiring, there is a feeling of some haze, roughness and opacity. After half an hour, I want to take them off and no longer use them. In general, I was very disappointed with the model. A score of two points for the fact that, in my opinion, the money went down the drain and now I have to spend time looking for other headphones instead.
