Plustek OpticFilm 8100 High-quality film scanner

I am very satisfied with this product. I was debating whether to go with the Kodak Slide N SCAN Scanner or the Plustek OpticFilm 8100 Scanner. I'm glad I chose Plustek because of the scan quality (higher resolution) and flexibility (more settings and control) compared to Kodak have. well packed. It comes with good setup instructions and a user manual, both quality prints and online videos (via YouTube and QuickTime). The scanner itself looks and feels good. The supplied software (SilverFast 8.8) (on CD or as a download) is easy to install. After reading the instruction manual (I watched the online video), after a few test runs, you can get acquainted with it. I found the software quite easy to use and powerful enough to get the scan results I needed. For any important program feature or control setting, you can click the menu button to open a PDF help document or QuickTime tutorial that shows you how to use it. I found them very helpful. I used the scanner for about a week and scanned over 100 film negatives (40 years old) into JPG files for restoration and safekeeping. I am very happy with the results. For each film, I can manually adjust the scan resolution, sharpness, contrast, color, etc. or use the automatic image enhancement feature in the software. A nice surprise for me is the Dust and Scratch Removal (SRDx) software feature. These bugs were automatically removed once I set the desired detection level and tile size. I figured I would have to buy a more expensive model with a built in infrared dust and scratch sensor for it to work. OpticFilm 8100 works great without it. Overall I am very happy with this scanner. It produces high quality conversion of movies to digital media. The only wish I have for him is more speed. With a scan resolution of 3600 dpi, each scan plus file creation takes 2-3 minutes.
