These are solid bulbs. They are LED, so use less energy and give off much less heat than halogen or incandescent bulbs (per unit of brightness). I ordered the soft whites and they are very bright compared to my last set. I personally would rather have more than enough brightness and use a dimmable wall switch (variable brightness) to choose at will. I would recommend.
