Unfortunately this lights up, not Used new batteries, tried a lot. Vain. While the Flying Santa bought last year stays lit with the batteries replaced so I know how it works. I'll take the risk of ordering a replacement instead of a refund, but I'm not optimistic. Light is an important element and quality control seems to be an issue in this area. If the replacement works I will update the review. Be careful. Update. Received a replacement the next day, also picked up the broken ups earlier in the day. This second burns. Just be prepared that you can get one, maybe two, and return the second, or a gift if both work. you are so cute
