Review on 👶 VTech VM312-2 Video Baby Monitor: 1000 ft Range, Night Vision, Talk-Back Intercom, 2 Cameras - White/Grey by Jaime Pulley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pleasantly surprised!

I ordered these when we were moving into a new house where the kids' bedrooms (who am I kidding - preschoolers now!) are upstairs and across the house from mine. I was specifically looking for a monitor with two cameras (one for each of the awful two). Test! And I wanted not only to be able to hear them when they call me, but also to be able to contact them to see if I can solve their problems from the comfort of my bed. Listen! This little system exceeded my needs! PROS: Two cameras means I can set up a camera in each room across from their beds. Easily switch between two cameras. Don't worry they'll hear what's going on in MY room unless I press the talk button. Really scared the first day or two. I didn't want to hurt her. against her will! - Night vision means there is no light to keep them awake - The parent unit will wake itself up if the kids move or make any noise. Fortunately, my children sleep like the dead - and nobody talks in their sleep. CONS: - Night vision is not the best. But it's pretty damn clear (albeit a little creepy at times) for the price. The battery life of the parent monitor is VERY low. If I either don't charge it every morning (even if I put the screen to sleep all night) OR don't charge it even when it's off, the battery will die. Fast! And one of the advantages for me was that the parent unit was wireless. Having to switch cameras means I have to 'choose' which child I want to see that night. A personal issue as I believe the cameras should have been in the same room. Simple solution - I turn over at night. unless one of them is in the weather. I know my terrible couple isn't the target audience for this 'nanny', but she works great for us. The peace of mind is priceless (or bloody cheap - $88!). Even my disadvantages are not that serious. Having to remember to charge your device every day becomes another habit like charging. Kids love being able to say goodnight to the camera. And I can be a fly on the wall when they forget it's there* (usually a pretty sweet interaction between siblings. USUALLY!).

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
