A little background: I'm a radio amateur who often turns on 35-100 watts from my office. This sends enough interfering radio frequencies into adjacent computer cables that without the ferrite beads on either end of the links, the Caps Lock LED will illuminate and various peripherals will shut down or jam during transmission. (My 27-inch aluminum iMac is very well insulated on its own.) I ordered these ferrite rings because they were advertised for USB cables. I had to think more about their 3mm diameter. They are great for mini and micro USB. Cables I have a few but unfortunately too small for my old plain USB cables. Time to pull out the calipers, measure something and order bigger chokes. as opposed to the type intended for permanent installation. Tiny pins hold the beads securely on the cords where installed and the beads close securely. The latches can be disengaged with a fingernail or jeweler's screwdriver, and if you're careful they should provide a long reuse life on a variety of cables. However, ferrite beads are cheap and you should probably just leave them in place.
