Quality stone for quality work

I have many hobbies. Some of them including machining, woodworking, gunsmithing, fishing, hunting, crafts, knife collecting, etc. require sharp knives and tools. And I always try to get the highest quality tools first as I believe that quality work can only be done with quality tools and that cutting corners always results in damage, usually to your wallet as one tool at a time is replaced . I demand a lot from my tools, especially knives. Over the years I have tried countless options and used different types of sharpening stones for knives and tools including ceramic, silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, diamond, synthetic oil stones, natural oil stones, synthetic water stones, natural water stones, cubic boron nitride, tungsten carbide, diamond files, steel files , Tormek grinders, Kalamazoo belt grinders, Baldor grinders, etc. I have more sharpeners than many if not most full time sharpeners. For general sharpening, especially by hand, nothing beats a diamond in my opinion. . And nothing compares to DMT in diamond stones. Their 10" DuoSharp stones are their best everyday stones. I've been using them for about 15 years now and all my DMT stones sharpen like new. I can't get enough of these stones recommend. even gave them to family members for their own use. They cut fast because they are diamonds. They don't clog as long as you pour some water on them because of the little islands of bulging pockets. They wash easily in the blender They are easy to store because they are very thin They are extremely durable due to materials and construction (Made in the USA) They will not slide or move when used with an additional base (recommended) They are light enough even if instead of a stone tool you can take a stone with a tool (the extra base has a handle on the bottom) best of all the 10" models are huge and enough space have to sharpen pretty much anything. They simply cannot be defeated for most tasks. Considering how long they last, the fact that you're actually buying two stones in one, how well they work, their physical size, and ease of use, dollar for dollar, they're a bargain too, even though they're cheap. initially somewhat more expensive than other stones. A few tips for you: 1) If you can, try distilled water. If you can't, that's okay. But if you can, you will limit any small amount of rust that occurs when stainless steel is water sharpened. And don't use oil with them, it's not necessary or economically viable. 2) Clean them when you're done and enough particles have accumulated. Otherwise, any non-stainless steel particles from sharpening on the surface will rust. While this doesn't harm the stone itself, it's just not good practice. Just wash them under the sink and then dry them with an old rag and then let them dry in a cool place for about an hour. Once dry, they can be separated with a rag for storage. And always use an old rag as tiny metal grindstones that naturally peel will permanently discolour/darken fabrics. more than a stone in a box. These inexpensive plastic boxes, which you can find for a few dollars, are great for storage. 3) Finally, let the stone do all the work. If this isn't fast enough, you're either using the wrong grit or you've wasted too much time since you last sharpened. I hope this review helps even if it was a bit long. Happy sharpening!
