TL; DR below. I've had this monitor for about nine months, during which time the monitor has mostly been connected to a PC I was building at the same time. The unit itself serves its purpose admirably and has some very nice pluses alongside its value propositions: a solid base and mounting plate that is at the same time heavy, secure and stable, able to withstand the knocks and bumps of most desks in normal use. The size lends itself well to a gaming setup and comfortably fits within the viewer's effective field of view. USB ports. Personally, I don't use it very often, but the four USB 3 Type-A ports offer plenty of flexibility for those who want additional options at hand. The monitor itself lived up to its promises for my needs in about 6 months. regular use and fits well in the gaming setup (my personal setup is included in the attached pictures). However, an issue that arose after those six months resulted in my two-star deduction: This product completely crippled my system for three months due to a very unexpected and difficult-to-diagnose issue. stable until one day when you restart the computer does not freeze. All subsequent boot attempts either hung or resulted in the system failing to POST before showing up on the monitor. After several months of diagnosing and submitting suspicious parts, nothing could be found that could cause such an error - every part needed to complete the boot was tested or replaced with a new one, but the system still refused to POST. Recently, quite by accident, I discovered the cause of my problems and no one I spoke to took this into account. The display port cable that came with the monitor was defective and may not conform to display port standards. Solution as a result of this Reddit post from a user with a similar unsolved issue (I would post a link here but Revain doesn't allow it). So cheaper display port cables can have power connectors on both ends, allowing bi-directional power transfer, which can cause problems booting the computer while still getting power from another unexpected source (pictures of both ends of the cable). my own standard cable is included for clarity). Closing the pin as suggested in the post solved the problem that had plagued my system for months and the cable was replaced. Since then there have been no more problems and my system is running again. My biggest concern with this whole issue is the risk Acer is setting its customers up to by supplying non-standard connectors with their very delicate (and expensive) connectors. ) that could potentially destroy other components of the end user's computer. Personally, I haven't seen any further backlash from price drops on this monitor, but now I'm very cautious knowing that a relatively simple and important part of this product is being marketed - likely with many Acer displays - and features such as System hacking bug. I would recommend that potential buyers invest in a standard display cable from the start rather than a box. Relying on faulty equipment is too much of a risk, and a few extra dollars can save you from the dangers of a standard cable. too poor quality and below the norm.
