Original Brother toner started smearing and fading after about 500 prints. I decided to try aftermarket toner and damn I'm glad I did. The irony is that this toner produces better print quality than Brother. Installation is easy. Before inserting, simply shake the cartridge back and forth to loosen the toner powder. The toner life resets itself and mine shows on the LCD that it's not a genuine cartridge. However, this does not affect the functionality of the printer. It remains to be seen whether it will reach the specified number of pages. In terms of value for money I see no reason to spend more just to get genuine Brother toner.
