This lens is worth every penny. It is sharp in all foci, even wide open. But this lens is not for a marathon. It tends to get a bit heavy after a few hours. I train and even I get a little hard after a while. Other than that, I think it's just a great all-round lens. I use it for all types of recordings I make. This is a great portrait lens that allows me to zoom in on a subject without knowing how close it is. It makes for some really memorable shots and close-ups. At f/2.8 and the right distance, the background blur is "creamy". It's great for sports too, again the f/2.8 aperture is great for field and indoor sports where flash isn't allowed. This lens is also great for nature photography. I've gotten great shots of everything on a tripod, monopod, or just on top of a tree stump. Birds, flowers, leaves and even bugs. The sharpness and smooth, even focusing of this lens make it possible. The only downside I found with this lens is the price and availability. When I tried to buy it, nobody had it in stock. Had to wait 2 weeks for it to be available. The costs are a bit extreme. This lens costs more than my two cameras combined. If you want to become a Sony photographer, buy this lens. If not, try the cheaper Tameron or Sigma. All in all I am very satisfied with this lens. Gentle you "my baby!"
