Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing sound; surprisingly small and light; well made

It's ridiculous to test the wireless microphone system with the case, but it's the first thing you see when you unbox the G2 and it's amazingly perfect. From materials to size, feel and meticulous craftsmanship, this case screams quality. I'm used to buying cases to carry and store gear. The icing on the cake is that the G2 comes with such a beautiful body. Now for this cake. The G2 is a complete lavalier system. Everything you need is included in the package, just add flair. The kit even includes a TRRS cell phone jack. This won't connect to the iPhone Lightning Connector and even those seem to go away, but that's another issue. The kit includes: 1 - Transmitter with built-in microphone 1 - Receiver 1 - Lav microphone 1 - Microphone clip 1 - Foam windscreen for Lav1 - Dead cat style windscreen for built-in microphone 1 - Type A USB connector for 2 USB -C Male Connector Charging Ports1 - 3.5mm TRS Male - 3.5mm TRS Male (Camera) 1 - 3.5mm TRS Male - 3.5mm TRS Male Cable (cell phone) 1 - Pin reset 1 - Smart semi-soft case The G2 transmitter and receiver are both built tough. They are tiny and surprisingly light. So light that when used with an external toilet mic, it's easy to forget you're connected. The LCD display is bright, sharp and colourful. The clip is the perfect size to clip to clothing or slip into your camera's hot shoe. As a strap/clip hybrid, the G2 is reminiscent of the Blink 500 Pro or the Rode Wireless Go, both of which are significantly more expensive. Blink (56mm × 38mm × 29.4mm) is also larger. Rode (45mm x 44mm x 19mm) is similar to G2 (52mm x 42mm x 17mm) but lacks key details like trrs jack socket etc. The most amazing thing is that unlike most devices of this type The included external Lava system that comes with the G2 is actually usable. I've never fully drained the G2's battery, but on several occasions I've worked for more than five hours. Everything still worked perfectly. The most important part of all this is of course the sound quality and the G2 doesn't disappoint. The built-in microphone is serviceable, but using the included lavatory is a nice step forward. The 150Hz high pass filter works great, especially during live performances. All digital systems have latency and the G2 is no exception. I suspect the latency is around 25ms but I haven't had a chance to measure it. This isn't a problem if you only use one mic and can compensate for that in post. The receiver gain changes in increments of three (3, 6, 9, 12, 15). I'm not sure why it's better than 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, but five steps is definitely better than three. Overall the G2 is excellent. Five stars.

Pros
  • Real-time monitoring and gain control
Cons
  • Only available in white
