Despite good construction, not suitable for hiking with a puppy

This backpack is ideal as hand luggage. But for hiking with a pup - not really. It is very well built and the design details (looks, build and finish) are top notch. But it's really not intended for practical use when hiking. For example: the leash inside is at the top near the back. The lid hinge is also located there. This means that when driving with the backpack open, the dog cannot simply (practically) go on the leash. It's just not well thought out. The mesh is well designed for ventilation and visibility, but the top cover is a bit stiff (it has some element of stiffness) so you can't roll it up or move it out of the way for the dog to stick its head out. The fanny pack is oddly designed - they couldn't tell if it was part of a backpack (it doesn't work well as it's only half the depth of the backpack and a hip belt that's too small for a normal American male). ). The backpack has no pockets for water bottles or poop bags. and while you can pack it in a fanny pack, that means the bag isn't all that useful without a fanny pack, but the fanny pack is sort of an appendage. Basically, this is an elegant backpack suitable for a very small dog. (3-5 pounds) for use as carry-on baggage on an airplane. Our 3.5 lb Chihuahua fit in well although she jumped quite a bit and didn't like it. Our 5.5 pound Chihuahua was very tense and didn't want to stay in the pack. If the top opening could stay open with the leash attached, it might have worked, but there was no way the top flap wouldn't open without it bouncing onto his head. not suitable for hiking. Disappointing as the quality of materials and build was very good but the actual design was clearly not created by someone with extensive experience walking dogs.
