Little wonder! suitable for portable audio and video devices

This tiny recorder is packed with features and performed very well in my tests. I found the controls a bit confusing at first, but after some experimenting I figured it out. (Instructions are decent, but I could use more detail.) The recorder itself is solidly built, mostly metal. The metal cover protects the USB-A connector, which is used both for charging and for connecting to a computer. (If you do, it will appear as a USB drive.) At the other end is a microphone with grilled holes all around and at the end. In the middle of this end is a 2.5mm jack that can be used for headphones (headphones are included). The menu item allows for "Line-In" to be included, so this connector can be used for that too - I haven't tried it. On one side is a slide switch that turns the recorder on and off and starts/stops recording. On the other side there is a volume rocker and buttons for deleting and switching between voice and continuous recording. The front panel has an OLED panel (it seems) and backlit touch control buttons. They are used for menu navigation and record/playback controls. There's a speaker grille on the back - I found the speaker's fidelity to be excellent for its size. The recorder has a preset for uncompressed WAV recordings - I changed it to MP3 recordings to save disk space. You also have a choice of different bitrates for MP3 recording - the guide recommends not setting the highest bitrate as some players may not be able to handle it. For my voice recording purposes, the 64kb setting was great. After some initial testing at home to familiarize myself with the recorder, I took it to the city planning committee meeting, placed it on the table in front of me, turned on the voice recorder. and let it record the session. Neither speaker was amplified, and it was a large conference room, so I wanted to see how well it picked up voices from across the room. Overall it was very good - although my own voice and the voices of the speakers next to me were louder, the speakers across the room were still audible and I could easily hear what they were saying when I later copied the MP3 on my computer and listened. . Voice control didn't cut anyone off - you can adjust the sensitivity. Funny that the recorder came with a preloaded music track - it sounded pretty good out of the speaker. This voice recorder has exceeded my expectations and I plan to use a lot of it.

Pros
  • Decent performance
