DOA - Unusable due to battery not charging

I couldn't decide whether I wanted this HT-A2 or Hti handheld or Hti HT-19 radar gun so I ordered both. Both had similar specs, but this model was slightly cheaper and more compact, and the HT-19 comes with a carrying case. The HT-A2 came first and looked well built. The only initial disappointment was the lack of a case or even a protective case, which doesn't require much when buying a $550+ product. When I connected it to the included charger, a green battery flashed on the screen and then died out. That led me to believe it was fully charged, but I left it on the charger for over an hour before trying it. After removing the charger, I press and hold the power button for 3 seconds and. Nothing. So I tried leaving it on the charger for a few hours but nothing. Tried different chargers and charging cables, nothing. Eventually I tried it still connected to the charging cable and it eventually turned on for about a minute and then I got a low battery warning and it turned off. Left on for a few minutes while tethered to the charging cable it seemed to work, but I was very unfazed by the grainy screen and, of course, when I unplugged it it immediately turned off. Something is obviously wrong with the battery or the internal electronics. The manual mentions replacing the battery, but you have to disassemble the case, which involves removing the "Quality Done" sticker blocking one of the screws for the case. Luckily the HT-19 has arrived and it charges and works well. I also noticed that the screens, menus and features are the same on both devices.

Pros
  • Check, measure and inspect
Cons
  • Slightly dented
