Review on Gemini HDCN 15 Turntable Headshell Cartridge by Lokesh Das

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great sound, reasonable price, easy setup

Before ordering this shell cartridge I tried to order a replacement stylus as that was all that needed replacing. Unfortunately, when putting in a new needle, I accidentally misplaced the cartridge. This got me thinking about how difficult it is to properly align the turntable cartridge. After repeated attempts at alignment, with only worse sound than before, I returned the needle and put my old cartridge back in. Surprisingly, it sounded better than before, but not for long; it had yet to be replaced. That's when I remembered that when we were DJing, we kept swapping shell cartridges with no problems. I didn't want to spend another $100 when the turntable itself was only around $150, so I was intrigued that this cartridge got so many positive reviews at that price. I decided to take the risk and am very glad I did. I just screwed it onto my arm and started playing records again and it sounds great. I just ordered another one as a backup for next time. Many have mentioned that it is reverse connected, meaning what comes out of the left speaker should come out of the right and vice versa. At first this wasn't a problem, but it became apparent when I heard Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" so I looked up how to reinstall the pickup properly. It was easy to do but you have to be careful. I'm not a music lover, but good sound quality is important to me and I have hundreds of records in various conditions. This pickup is perfect for my purposes because the wiring has been corrected.

Pros
  • Rubber washer for perfect fit on tonearm
