It works as advertised. But over time it gets stained - I don't even wash it after each use - I just rinse it out. The blotchy look doesn't bother me. As others may have said, my best results come from: 1) Using the right filter. 2) Pour boiling water into the filter coffee maker first and place the dripper on the coffee cup to dispense the hot water into my empty coffee cup. I leave this water in the cup to warm the cup. 3) I place the dripper back on the small drip tray that came with the dripper and measure out the ground coffee. 4) I pour just enough hot water over the coffee to cover the coffee grounds and wait 30 seconds. This allows the soil to bloom. 5) Then I pour the remaining water down the sides of the filter walls - up to the vertical ribs at the end of the dripper which is about enough water for 1 coffee cup. 6) Then I wait 2 minutes for the coffee to brew. 7) After brewing, I stir the top of the coffee to break up the top layer. I pour hot water from the coffee cup and then place a dropper on the cup to pour the coffee into the cup. I watch and check the coffee so I don't overfill my cup. Stirring the top layer ensures the coffee settles to the bottom so all the water runs through all of the coffee and drips into the cup rather than the coffee lining the top edges of the filter. All said it took less than 5 minutes (including boiling water) to a fresh hot cup of morning coffee. For me, this is a good morning routine.
