I have tried to find many ways to get data from an old Win 98 computer such as: a flash drive, writable CD, zip drive, etc., but none of them were incompatible with the old operating system. I ended up spending many hours in vain. I saw a link to such a device while searching the internet and decided to try it. I didn't even have to remove the hard drive from my computer to use it. I simply unplugged the ribbon cable and power connector and then plugged in the adapter and power connector and plugged the USB into my laptop running Win 10. The drive immediately showed up in File Explorer on the laptop. I copied the files of interest and the transfer was very fast even though the hard drive on the old PC was slow. I would highly recommend this device to anyone who needs to copy files from an old IDE drive.
