Review on πŸ” Enhanced SEO-Optimized Ultra Stream HDMI Single-Channel HD Streaming Encoder by Magewell by Gary Revils

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good product. Incorrect listing.

I am writing this review after receiving the product, testing it overnight and finding out all the faults on this list. Please note the following before purchasing this product: - Main stream encoding is limited to 4000 Kbps - Sub-stream encoding is limited to 1000 Kbps - Sub-stream resolution and frame rate are limited to 720p30 - Recording is limited by encoding settings. If you record in 1080p60 but want to stream in 720p60, you can't. Maximum possibilities: main stream is 1080p60 at 4000 kbps and sub stream is 720p30 at 1000 kbps. Against this background, why does this product have 5 stars? While I've found I'm not the target audience for this product, it's still a quality product. The slogan on the box is "Make streaming flawless easy" and they deliver on that promise. As a trade-off, you can know almost nothing about live streaming and still have a quality stream. If you want to stream interviews, static content, face-to-face content, or anything else that doesn't involve action, an additional stream is probably the way to go. If you don't want to spend time learning advanced coding options, this product is for you. If you are planning to stream games or action-based content, this product is not for you. The bit rate is too low and the extra stream is useless to you. The recording feature is handy but also useless for you in this use case. I would have known that the seller disclosed this information in the description. Since it wasn't, I'm packing it back and asking for a refund. I'll spend less money on a different encoder, but I'll have to make compromises by having a 12V portable charger (magewell runs on 5V, which I've had several portable chargers from before), a WiFi bridge to make it wireless (magewell has built-in WiFi), I would have to use another encoder's simple web interface (magewell has a very good app compared to these other companies' web interfaces) and I would have to run a few ffmpeg commands to record the feed (magewell does this with the click of a button). I will make these tradeoffs because I cannot stream my content below 720p60 at 4000kbps or 1080p60 at 6000kbps. The former is possible, but the bitrate is the maximum bitrate that will ever exist. The latter is not possible with this device and 1080p60 at 4000 Kbps isn't worth $358 to me when there are other products on the market that can handle 4 streams at 12-32000 Kbps for HALF the cost of this device. I hope this review will help you make the best informed choice for your products.
