My previous problems with water bottles: I usually prefer to put things away for a while before visiting again. After launching different styles of the better known competitors' hydration tanks and using them in different locations throughout the year, I was missing a few things. The other brand always seemed to give the water a rubbery-plastic taste no matter what, and cleaning the other brand was always a chore as some tanks had small fillers and you either buy a bottle brush and then turn the tank upside down had to ask . down and open to dry or use more water than necessary to wash the soap. I tried the effervescent denture cleaning method but it added another layer of weird flavor even after rinsing. Some models from other brands have a larger neck/cap, which is more useful, but the plastic/rubber construction allows for efficient opening and closing with almost Herculean force. Not to mention that it was easy to twist the filler cap on my troubled reservoirs and then they ran all over me and my stuff at the worst possible moment. Product at hand: Enter Source Tactical. The tank arrived well packaged. The big plus for me is the top that opens up for cleaning/drying. I also like the wire connector between the gas cap and the neck. I've had cases where other brands' flat plastic connectors have worn down and broken with use, making it easy to lose the cap. The mechanism is reliable and easy to use. I haven't accidentally crossed a thread yet. Initially, I had doubts about the plastic that the tank body is made of. I wondered if it would leak through the seam, but so far it hasn't. As always, your gear is only as good as how you treat it. The taste is significantly better than other tanks I've used. On a scale from drinkable to acceptable, your mileage may vary. I've used it on a few hikes over the summer, and while it won't replace my daily bottle of Nalgene, it's earned a spot on my list of essential outdoor gear. I will not buy another tank from a competitor. Combine that with the sea of available irrigators on the market and you have a good setup. - Fox
