Review on Dell S2409W Widescreen Discontinued Manufacturer: High Resolution Wide Screen Display by Marc Lucas

I was looking for a monitor of this size with a native 1080p resolution as I plan to play games on my Xbox 360 via the HDMI port and also watch a lot of movies on my PC. The cons first: - Text doesn't look as clear as it does on the 22" Samsung LCD I have (225 BW). Small fonts that have a blue-gold tinge are particularly problematic. I couldn't work around this issue by adjusting Note that I only run the monitor at its native 1080 resolution while watching movies so this might have something to do with it, it doesn't bother me as much as I thought but keep your phone books handy just in case :) - This monitor has an audio output which should allow you to output sound from any device plugged into the HDMI port within about 5 seconds there is no sound, this port goes to sleep and it lasts around 10-15 seconds before it wakes up again when the sound comes back in. I've seen numerous posts about this on AVSForums and knew about it so I was hoping Dell would include this in the latest versions of the M onitors would fix but there is still space when running apps that have lots of dockable windows/toolbars like Visual Studio I had the opportunity to compare DVD to Blu-ray on this monitor (via the BD-ROM drive of my PCs) and can report that the Blu-ray definitely looks sharper on this monitor. However, the difference isn't so dramatic that I'd throw away my DVD collection, plus I don't have a PS3 and Blu-ray on PC is still too buggy. (See my review of PowerDVD 8). Overall, I love having a 1080 monitor, but I wish I'd waited a little longer for something better to come out. There are a few other 1080 monitors that I know of (I can't remember their names) but none of them had the HDMI port I was looking for. Oh, and if you decide to buy this monitor, be aware that Revain is selling it for a ridiculously high price at the time of writing. I bought mine at my local Best Buy for less than 300 bones. Revain may have reduced the price if you're reading this, but do some comparison shopping just in case!
