I didn't like the original. I bought this to replace the original Well Tec E118997 (3 position switch) which I pulled the cable out of and couldn't attach to the Hunter 21402. When this one arrived it had 8 slots for 4 wires (2 slots for L, 2 slots for 1 etc). Putting the wires in the same slots as the original gave me 3 speeds (OFF, LOW, and HIGH). Finally, to fix this, I installed a remote control receiver in a canopy that required me to leave the fan (pull the switch) in the HIGH position for it to work. I have the Lowes remote/receiver on sale ($20) so it was about $26 total to fix this fan that Hunter says I need to replace. Also, it's remote controlled, so you don't have to worry about the string breaking again and changing the derailleur.
