I broke my old HP laptop and needed to replace it. I thought it was a good, economical choice. Had not. Everything went fine at first, but once I started restoring my files from an online backup and installing the software I needed to use, it became clear that this computer was only useful as a web browser. Disk space, RAM, etc. is MUCH better than mine, but I got the first clue when trying to restore my data from a cloud backup. He got it about 1/10th of the way wrong. Disk space is full. Over the next few days I deleted all data folders except ONE, the one for the Gem and Mineral Society, for which I do monthly newsletters. It's pretty pathetic. I reinstalled Microsoft Office 365, which I have a subscription to. It installed and seemed fine. I reinstalled Photoshop Elements 2018 and ran into all sorts of problems. Running out of disk space again, just trying to mount it. Not using enough RAM! I tried editing and cropping just a scanned business card - nothing a flimsy laptop could handle - but when I tried to save a new file I got an error saying I didn't have enough RAM to do it. What. I rebooted, then went into task manager and killed a few non-essential programs to free up enough RAM so the error message wouldn't come up again. But then Photoshop Elements just quit with no error message and without saving the new file. Went on through half a dozen iterations. At this point I gave up. This computer can't really do anything other than surf the Internet and perhaps edit Word files. I need to run the software even though it doesn't require many resources. it's a keypress every two seconds at most, which shouldn't stress the system. I'm no idiot, although I certainly was when I ordered this laptop. It was late at night, I was desperate and feeling overwhelmed. The reviews were positive and I decided I didn't need a heavy workhorse so I went for it. The price was right! But I'd do much better with a $150-$175 Chromebook, which of course I can't use because I need the Office suite and Photoshop Elements. Again, not to be a jerk, I have a BSc in Computer and Information Science (Hons), several MSCIS theses, and I completed the entire course at Florida Atlantic University for my MCSE certification. Also A+ series (repair of computers). I was also a Certified Software Quality Analyst and had some other credentials, but I've been retired for a few years now. I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not an idiot. although it was me when I ordered it and I'm really embarrassed for that. I send the notebook back and give this review. HP makes good products. If you just want to surf the web, maybe do some word processing, then by all means do it. If you are more serious, choose something else. maybe twice as expensive or more. Call me embarrassed and humiliated in West Palm Beach, Florida. With that in mind, may I send you our new resident (PITUS)? He definitely doesn't belong here. And they don't like him here either.
