Review on Fyxation Gates Platform Pedal Black by Angel Cortez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Built to take a beating.

I bought these pedals to replace the standard cheap pedals that came with my 6KU track bike. So far they've worked great, spin smoothly with no bearing noise, and are wide enough to fit almost any shoe. What I like: - Width. They fit easily into my standard vans and should be wide enough for even the thickest of running shoes in case anyone else wears them. This also means they use toe straps to create extra large gates that make it easy to slip your shoes in. - Capture. The small knobs on these pedals offer a surprisingly secure grip. In fact, sometimes I want my shoes to slide a little more over these things to make it easier to adjust my position. If you've had trouble with your shoes slipping too much on the pedals, this should help. I like how tightly the bearing surfaces are sealed to the outside. There is minimal clearance around the threaded bolt to allow for rotation and the end caps fit snugly against the pedal's outer surface. The end caps on my old pedals fell off easily and dirt got into the bearing. These pedals appear to be designed to withstand any abuse with a minimum of maintenance. What I don't like: - Width. Yes. This is both like and dislike. These are great for ease of use, but I've found them to be a bit more prone to pedal strikes. I tend to take tight turns at relatively high speeds, and while I don't think the increase in width from my old pedals to these is extremely noticeable most of the time, it is noticeable when I hit the pavement during a turn. With my old pedals that wouldn't be a problem. I'm getting used to this, but be aware that they're wide enough to make a difference when cornering, especially when riding in a fixed gear.
