MacBook Pro Early 2011 Tips

If you have a 2011 Macbok Pro, read on: First, the Mac recommended maximum RAM is 8GB (4GB x 2) on this laptop. Check your system profiler and you will see that this is clearly stated. If you install them you are going beyond what is recommended, so responsibility at this point is your own will. If you make updates to your Mac that are outside of the recommended range. I'm not saying it won't work, just that it's not an "official recommendation" for Mac. Maybe they know something we don't know? After all, they are the designers and manufacturers of the MacBook Pro. With that in mind, here are a few things to note: - There are two separate instructions for replacing RAM. The Mac version Profiler link doesn't say you need to disconnect the battery. On the Crucial website, their instructions say yes. AFTER OPENING THE CASE, YOU MUST TOUCH THE METAL TO DISCHARGE THE ELECTRICAL STATIC ENERGY. You don't invent it. If you've changed RAM and haven't done so, that might be the reason why everything is buggy. This is a laptop and it conducts electricity and your body carries static energy that needs to be discharged - DO NOT TOUCH the gold plated area. Simply not. I have no idea what's going on because I've never touched it, but if someone wrote "don't touch the gold plated area" in their installation guide, then I'm not sure why you did it. And if so, this could be the reason why the device is not working. Be sure to replace both devices of the same size. I've read that a user has replaced 4GB and left 2GB in the device and this is NOT recommended. Nobody recommends this. Always replace 2GBx2, 4GBx2 or 8GBx2 in pairs. It's just not recommended to create other configurations. Use the right tools. I can't overdo it. If you don't have a micro toolkit, don't use anything else. Just spend $12 and buy it as an investment. When you work on your own laptop, you need the right tools.
