Review on Large Star Mark Pro-Training Dog Collar - 21-inch by Spliff Sinha

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great collar for walking a sporty dog.

Excellent collar. This is electric power steering for your dog. When used responsibly, the risk of damaging a naughty dog's neck is much less than using a regular collar or a choke collar. With this collar you can teach your dog to walk on a leash and he will immediately learn to correct himself if he forgets and pulls on the leash instead of walking on the leash. The dog will quickly realize which of you is the dog and that it must not pull on the leash, otherwise it will feel less comfortable. Also an added bonus when the collar looks like a normal collar on the dog as opposed to kite like collars. Collars are also safe and humane to use, but the use of collars in public draws unwanted criticism from well-meaning strangers unfamiliar with published research on collars and the use of choke collars. I have had two StarMark collars since 1999. I lost the first one while hunting and replaced the lost collar with a second StarMark collar that I bought from Revain in 2013. I use it daily to run my 60lb lab and as of mid 2019 the collar has been working like new. I would recommend this collar to anyone who wants to walk an obedient dog. The collar provides a humane and safe way to treat your dog without causing injury. You'll be able to keep him out of traffic, other dogs, off people's faces and stay in control wherever you take your dog and look like you know what you're doing. This is great equipment. Update July 2019 Note some negative reviews mostly complaining about problems adding or removing links that make up the collar and a complaint or two about the collar falling apart. There is a "trick" to adding or removing links. If you need to adjust to your dog's size, the links easily detach with a sharp twisting motion, allowing you to add or remove a link. You'll also add a connection with a twist motion. The process is very simple once you get the hang of it. The learning curve is short for most, but it also seems steep for some. Be patient. No tools are required unless you have grip strength issues and can't get a firm grip on the links to engage them. When the links are properly connected this is a very strong and durable collar that will easily support my 65 lb lab with my dog's intense athletic power. If the collar falls apart, either the link is damaged or the link has not been properly connected, which is the user's fault. You can damage the ring if you are not careful with tools such as a vise or hammer when adding or removing links. For example, if the collar is slammed by a car door or hit by a truck, the connector may be damaged. Check the collar before putting it on your dog. If the link is loose reattach it, if damaged I would replace the link rather than the entire collar. I have had no damage or severe wear to the links on my collar over the 6 years of normal use in my lab. I have full confidence in this product and would definitely recommend it to my friends. M.
