Review on Double Acrylic Insulated Travel Tumblers: Keeping Your Beverages Hot or Cold On-The-Go! by William Obong

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Lids break easily, no replacement

I bought a set of 3 in November 2018. It's now August 2020, that's almost two years. In general I liked these glasses. They were selling for $15 at the time and appeared to be the best deal available at this size (32 ounces). Most travel goggles were 20 or 16 oz. I liked that they were transparent so the content was easy to see. They're pretty big, but thin enough to fit in regular cup holders. Only a few of our closet shelves were high enough to hold them and the straws lay next to them. They are not fully waterproof. The seal around the perimeter of the lid is good, but the opening for the straw leaves room for liquid to spill out if it's tilted far enough - usually if it's dropped. With normal pushing and driving operation, this was not a problem. The hole is in the center of the lid, which seemed awkward at first but really limits spills. I think their ability to keep drinks cold is fair. My only comparison would be to the styrofoam cups at the grocery store, and I haven't tested the temperature over time or side-by-side. I don't load drinks with ice, but I'm fine as long as they don't stay "icy". The biggest problem was the cracked lid (see photo). The jars survived several falls onto the wooden floor, but twice they landed on the lid and the lid broke, the shards shattering and leaving sharp edges. At this point the lid is unusable or somewhat dangerous, especially for younger children (but adults don't pay attention either). This is the reason for the 3 star rating. They are not difficult to keep. When they are full or empty they are a little heavy on top and because they are so tall they can easily be knocked over. The company does not sell replacement caps as far as I know (and according to Q&A). Based on the prices I've seen for other brands of replacement glass lids, a set of three replacement lids would cost the same or more than the current $20 price for a complete glass/lid/straw set. It probably makes sense. Raw materials are probably not worth a penny, and producing and distributing just a few caps and whole sets won't be much different. Cups can of course also be used without a lid. The rim isn't entirely smooth - it has grooves onto which you can screw the lid. But the design of the mug and lid has placed the ridges on the inside of the mug, just below the top, so you don't really feel them when drinking straight from the mug. But the lids are for my main use at the gym and in the car. So the question is, will I buy another set of these - really just to replace the caps. and try to be more careful - or try to find the best design and construction? A little hunting reveals that the "better" massagers cost two to three times as much. I use it every day and need at least two rinses. I will go with them again. Even for only three stars.
