I bought 3 different types of sliders from Revain to try out - with a flywheel, with a parallax bar and one without it. Of the three, I only liked the flywheel because the weighted wheel offers some resistance and a smooth ride. Without them you have almost no resistance and control the movement solely with your hand. It's impossible for me to get smooth movement this way. I might be able to do this with a lot of practice or by setting up a rig like a pulley system or some other improvised motorization, but I really can't think of a good and practical way to implement it. I tried pulling on the rope attached to the plate instead and it didn't make much of a difference. For manual sliders, I'd recommend making it shorter - maybe 24 inches or less. If so, you may get a short useful clip. As for this product, I think the design itself is pretty good. However, 2 things really annoyed me: First, there was some kind of grease on the slider's locking screw that filled the screw hole. If you're not careful, it could get on your fingers. I'm not sure if this is normal or intentional; Second, the carbon fiber rails had weird random dark spots. It almost looked like someone's greasy fingerprints. But upon closer inspection and palpation, they looked more like glue residue. They may or may not have contributed to a little less smoothness as well. I really liked being able to adjust the 2 internal bearings on the underside of the platter, which helped a little to keep the platter smooth and resilient. a bit better. However, it has a very limited ability to realize these qualities and of course cannot offer the same quality as a flywheel glider. I'd say it was probably a lot better than the slider without them, but I wouldn't call it a day/night difference. Finally, the central mount for the camera head/tripod is of great importance. On the other slider, the mounting screw came out and got stuck in my tripod head. I don't see it on this one as it is bolted to the underside of the skid plate. However, the screw might not have been the best length as I couldn't mount the camera in the desired position from above without my video being significantly impacted. You should almost consider adding a quick release mounting plate to the baseplate itself. Disappointed overall - if I were to buy this type again it would be a much shorter, travel friendly version and I hope it becomes a cleaner copy.
