Review on Duxtop E200A Portable Induction Cooktop - High-End Full Glass Sensor Touch Burner, 1800W Countertop with Stainless Steel Housing by Marco Habersham

Very disappointed. Limited and uneven heating

. I bought this to grill steaks and other food outside on the patio to avoid smoke in the house and setting off a smoke alarm. This hob is useless for that. Due to the "overheat protection" it doesn't let the pan heat up enough to get a good browning. It limits the temperature of the pan to around 460 degrees. Because there is such a lag between the actual temperature of the pan and the temperature sensor in the device, the temperature of the pan drops to about 280 degrees as soon as you place the meat in the pan before the device starts heating the meat. pan again. (I checked with an infrared thermometer). Thus, it does not maintain constant heating. If you want to use it to sear meat or cook at high temperatures, you're better off using a cast iron or infrared burner. I have a 1300w Cuisinart cast iron burner which is much better for searing meat and cooking at high temperatures. The Cuisinart burner gets MUCH hotter, providing a much more even and even heat throughout the pan. I really like the Duxtop, but between temperature limitation, temperature extremes and a fairly pronounced 6-inch heating ring in the pan. I find it useless for my purposes. Induction technology can be a very efficient and fast means of heating dishes, but it's poorly implemented in these portable cooktops.
