This item was purchased so we can cook outside. We use it specifically to prepare food that leaves odors in the room. We like it, but it's quite noisy, which we didn't expect.

Read the instructions and everything will be fine. It does not heat up unless an induction pot is placed on it. I use it as we speak for 2 CDs to make a large pot of chili. The induction element is about 6" in diameter (suitable for a small 8-9" pan), while the outer guide that is applied to the glass is 9-10" in diameter (that's the base size for a large 12" pan ) and the inside is about 4" (small pot).
