I bought these because I desperately needed a hot air repair station to replace the one I accidentally destroyed. I was able to ship very quickly and the price was low enough that I was able to hide it from accounting. After using it for a day I was surprised how good it is. I've used hot air repair stations that are cheap junk ($50 generics), mid-range name brands ($1000 models from Hakko and Weller), and really high-end soldering and repair stations (many thousands of dollars). . When it comes to functionality, it's as good as any (and it's way better than most). Features I like: - Wide range of airflow, from extremely low airflow (good for tiny components like the 0201 that deflate easily) to very high airflow (for heating up the bottom layer quickly) - Temperature accuracy is adequate for all but the most exotic is working. It works great for lead, tin and bismuth based solders. There are many exotic bobs that I don't work with, so I can't say if it's suitable for them. Quiet Operation: Very quiet, which is nice. Other people in the lab won't get upset if it's used. The build quality is not the best, but quite good. It's not far from Hakko. The user interface could only be better with more presets. Has three (3) presets. Most soldering stations don't have more than that, so it's hard to fault, but I'd like more - maybe three airflow presets and three temperature presets would be the best amount for me. What I like about the UI is that no bullshit gets in the way. The previous Hakko model was less pleasant to use.
