Other brands offer more compact and portable travel bands.

Could be less. I don't know why there is so much white space on the board. Too big to be called a mini portable. Plus there is no 5-6 foot cable. Other brands like AGPTek etc offer more portable devices. I bought it because it was a Philips brand (so I expected higher quality) but it defeats the purpose of being small and portable. A cord is important because you can't always sit next to an outlet. I return mine and receive a compact JSVER cube.
