I love this item. I really really. The only MP3 player I've had before was the original iPod, and while I miss the cool little spinning wheel, given the price difference, I'm more than willing to forego it. I have had my device for about 3 months. I thought it sounded great out of the box. Contrary to some other reviews I didn't have to fiddle with the EQ settings but I'm not a music lover so that might be part of it. Headphones are excellent. They fit my ears perfectly, as do my iPhone earbuds. So if you have medium-sized ears, then everything is fine. The battery life is pretty good. I can get about 3 days on a single charge (usually 5-6 hours of listening at work) although the radio tends to drain it quicker. Radio reception is pretty decent too, so no complaints. I haven't used it very much for videos. I've tried several formats and haven't had any luck with them, although they claim to be supported. They worked when I used the player's file transfer tool, which converts the video to the appropriate format. That's fine, except for the fact that it doesn't give you any conversion status, so you have no idea how long it will take to convert and then copy the video. I've found that if you've created an AVI or WMV clip with Windows Movie Maker, it will work without the need to convert it. Some other downsides are that the screen and plastic get dirty easily. This is minor and pretty much the complaint I have with most new devices. Too many manufacturers are opting for this glossy look these days. Anyway, if you are looking for a cheap MP3 player, forget it and buy this thing. It's definitely great value for money. Update: After about 7 months: 1. Lately I've noticed some programming errors that only occur with very long files like podcasts. Occurs randomly after long rewind/forward. As soon as you press the play button, the navigation buttons become unresponsive. You can still turn off the system, but you cannot fast forward/rewind or pause. There are no software updates from Sony to fix this. I don't think they care. I'm demoting this baby 4 stars because I still like this player and works well most of the time.2. If you want to charge it while continuing to use the player, I found a handy trick. Press the USB connector on the player about halfway and you will notice that the small battery status light will start flashing, indicating that it is charging. But you can keep using it. Very handy especially when you forgot to charge at night. This may or may not affect battery life. I just don't know, so use it at your own risk. In my case, battery life is still good, albeit not as drastic as it used to be. About what I expected after such a long time.3. I've noticed that some people are complaining about slow forward speed. Press Pause and then Forward. It's much faster.
